What is the Hebrew calendar?
It is a lunisolar system: months follow the Moon, while leap months keep festivals in their seasons. Years are counted from creation (Anno Mundi).
How Hebrew birthdays work
Your Jewish birthday is the same Hebrew month and day each year, but the matching civil date shifts because Gregorian and Hebrew years have different lengths.
Adar I & Adar II
In a leap year there are two Adars: Adar I and Adar II. Someone born in Adar II observes in Adar II when it exists; in a plain year many observe in the single Adar โ ask your rabbi when in doubt.
