Step-by-Step Instructions

The Tip Calculator helps you quickly calculate tips for restaurants, services, or any situation where you want to leave a gratuity. You can calculate tips using a percentage of the bill or a fixed amount, and split the total among multiple people.

Step 1: Enter the Bill Amount

Enter the total price or bill amount in the Price ($) field. This is the base amount before adding the tip. All amounts are in US Dollars ($).

Step 2: Choose Tip Calculation Method

Select how you want to calculate the tip:

  • Tip %: Calculate tip as a percentage of the bill (e.g., 15%, 18%, 20%). This is the most common method for restaurants.
  • Fixed Amount: Enter a specific tip amount in dollars. Useful when you want to leave a fixed tip regardless of the bill amount.

Step 3: Enter Tip Value

Depending on your selection:

  • If you chose Tip %, enter the percentage (e.g., 15 for 15%, 18 for 18%). Common tip percentages are 10%, 15%, 18%, or 20%.
  • If you chose Fixed Amount, enter the exact tip amount you want to give in dollars.

Step 4: Enter Number of People

Enter how many people will be splitting the bill and tip. If you're paying alone, enter 1. If you're splitting with friends, enter the total number of people.

Step 5: Calculate

Click the Calculate button to see the results. The calculator will show:

  • Total Tip: The total tip amount calculated
  • Total Amount: The bill amount plus the tip
  • Tip Per Person: How much each person should contribute for the tip
