Understanding the 8th Pay Commission

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from 1 January 2026. This calculator helps you estimate your new salary structure based on the fitment factor and various allowances.

How to Use This Calculator

Select your current pay level, enter the expected fitment factor, choose city categories for HRA and Transport Allowance, and enter the expected DA percentage. Click "Calculate Salary" to see your projected salary components.

Pay Levels

Each pay level corresponds to a specific Grade Pay (GP) and has a fixed starting basic pay under the 7th Pay Commission. The calculator automatically fills your current basic pay based on the selected level.

Fitment Factor

The fitment factor determines how your current basic pay is multiplied to get the new basic pay. The default value is 2.86, but you can adjust it based on your expectations.

City Category for HRA

HRA (House Rent Allowance) varies based on city classification:

• Category X (Metro): 27% of basic pay
• Category Y (Tier 2): 18% of basic pay
• Category Z (Tier 3): 9% of basic pay

Transport Allowance

Transport Allowance is calculated based on city category:

• Higher TPTA Cities: ₹3,600 per month
• Other Cities: ₹1,800 per month

DA Reset

Dearness Allowance (DA) typically resets to 0% at the beginning of a new pay commission. It is then adjusted periodically based on inflation indices.
